Start your morning the right way with a hearty green chili cheddar bagel with roasted jalapeno cheddar cream cheese with a tall, steamy cup of their Alaskan winter roast coffee. Or if you've got a sweet tooth, try a cinnamon sugar with starwberry c.c. and an iced mocha with one of their famous cinnamon rolls or other pastries. Whatever you get, you wont be dissapointed!

The bagels here are outstanding. There is a good variety of bagel flavors to choose from. Don't count on the standard plain cream cheese. Although they offer it, there are lots of other spreads to pick and it's fun to try different combinations. The menu also offers many sandwich choices for lunch that are outstanding. I think the service is good and the prices are very fair.

Back East bagels has the best bagels in town. They are the perfect size and density. The selection of sandwiches range from breakfast to your normal deli. They also have salads, soup, and baked goods (muffins, turnovers, and cookies). All items are homemade and well worth the trip.

I agree with the first review. The people who work here seem emotionally challenged. A small, stocky man, who I presume to be the owner/manager, is curt, unsmiling and borderline, RUDE. The employees are of two types, obviously unhappy, under paid and surly or stoned, loudly singing, whistling and disruptive of a quiet meal.

The bagels are actually decent, but the amount of "schmere", (a term the owner does not know or comprehend), is just too skimpy. If you want a satisfying amount of schmere, you have to pay for a double helping.

This joint is best AVOIDED, but if you're in east Tempe and just have to have a fresh bagel, just go in and buy a half dozen to a dozen bagels and LEAVE as fast as you can. You will find no warmth or appreciation of the money you're spending at Back East Bagels.

They are a lifeless and joyless bunch.

I am from NJ- the bagels are nothing like back east first off. Second they are always out of items. Third 80% of the help is very very rude and makes you feel like you are bothering them. I asked them to hold something on a sandwich, the lady looked at me, rolled her eyes, and said I'll do it this time.
