Thomas Cavagnaro will blame YOU for poor results
This business will not respect your design decisions and will change the finish (he sandblasted where I indicated high gloss), the prongs (he will simply cut off the ones he decided would be better as a rub over setting), the stone setting heights (I wanted flush- he set them high)- all without your permission ahead of time. Mr. Cavagnaro will not call or email before making these decisions. In fact, he will not even mention them when you call to see how things are going. Furthermore, the quality of the craftsmanship was surprisidngly bad. He rounded edges (via poor polishing techniques) that were meant to be square. He left extremely rough surfaces on the inner portion of the ring (from the sandblasting)- making the ring un-wearable. The rub-over settings were jagged and uneven. The prongs tilt in every direction- they simply look pushed sloppily over the gems. The ring holes were wobbly.
After agreeing to your time frame, after seeing your CAD model ahead of time, and after receiving your gemstones, he will confidently assure you that there are no issues or problems whatsoever in the production of your pieces. When you inevitably complain, he will blame YOU for being a bad designer, will claim that the DESIGN cannot be produced by anyone else in the industry, will say he had not enough time, and that the gems you sent were inferior and uneven. He will refuse to remake the pieces and will insult you no matter how professionally you made your complaint.
It seems to this jeweler that Mr. Cavagnaro should have refused the project if he believed himself incapable of producing the design as specified, don't you? It seems, further, that he should have refused the project if the time frame was not appropriate to produce professional results. It also seems to this reviewer that Mr. Cavagnaro should have asked permission before changing MY prong decisions, My finishing decisions, and My stone setting decisions. After all, it IS my design- isn't it???
